228: Pro Vercelli promoted

10 May 2031
Vercelli, Italy

Pro Vercelli fans were celebrating in the street as the club will now be playing in the Serie A for the first time since 1934. Mr BadDragon has turned the clubs fortunes around and restored the team to what the fans believe is their destiny.

We are moving into the final bend with just the bend and the straight to travel. Can we keep the momentum up and lead the others to the finish line?

Serie B Match 36/42 v Parma

Fallen giants Parma are our next opponents. They sit in 9th place and have been struggling this season.

I return to the more familiar 4-3-1-2 formation for this match. “N.B.” returns at the back, while “Degi” gets a run in the midfield.

“Roto” is forced off injured after only four minutes, and “Delle” is chosen to replace him. It gets worse when Riccio scores a close range header with just a hint of offside about it. Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t pull a goal back and go into the break trailing by that lone goal.

The second half doesn’t start well either as we allow a break down the left flank which is flashed home by Monaco and we trail by two! “Delle” looked to have scored but was clearly offside.

The run had to come to an end at some stage, however this result is hard to swallow. The fact that Catania won means that our lead has been cut to just four points.

We are still fourteen points ahead of the third placed Verona, so four wins from six will see us promoted. It would be nice to win the title, but promotion is the first goal.

Injury Update

It is good news that the injury to “Roto” is not a bad one. While we would like min available for every game, the fact that he is only out for one match is a bonus.

Serie B Match 37/42 v Padova

Padova come to town looking to leave with the crown jewels. It’s up to us to prevent this and prevent a slide developing.

“N.B.” didn’t have a good outing last time, so “Bong” gets a run out. “Zo” takes a break, with “Vags” dropping back, and “Delle” partnering “Curlz” up front.

“Curlz” looked to have bagged a goal, only to be called back for being offside. That was the closest we came to a goal and we go into the break at 0-0. It took a wonder strike from “Macho” to break the deadlock. His 14th of the season and the lead to us.

Another fine effort from “Macho” sees us double the lead, and hopefully secure all the points.

I give some minutes to young “Sergio” who rattles the crossbar. The rebound falls to “Degi” who takes the chance well.

We stop the slide before it began, and secure a valuable three points. We are still four points ahead of Catania with five games to play.

According to to the points, we can finish no lower than third place, so it looks like one more win will lock in a promotion.

Team News

Of course we didn’t take into account the fact that Verona would lose to 19th placed Renate and surrender the fight lightly.

It’s always important to impress your boss! It’s been 97 years since Pro Vercelli left the giddy heights of Serie A, but the Bianche casacche are back!

Serie B Match 38/42 v Benevento

Final game of the episode sees us away at Benevento Calcio. My cunning plan to end the episode with a promotion was curtailed by the midweek call by Verona.

“Stefotto” and “Roto” are back from injury and come back into the starting lineup. “Zo” remains on the bench although he will be probably be getting some minutes at some stage.

“Macho” can score some fantastic goals. He strides forward from the halfway line before releasing a thunderbolt. Possibly the goal of the season.

“Micci” pulled off a series of three top saves, however he couldn’t save us from the resulting corner. Half-time came with the scores level.

We don’t do things the easy way. That man Anastasia bags his 20th goal of the season and we trail 2-1. Catania is currently drawing their match.

It goes from bad to worse. The boys appear to be satisfied with promotion as their effort levels have dropped, and we don’t look so dangerous. In the end we go down 3-1 and the title race is heating up.

We don’t like making things easy for ourselves. Instead of going into the the last four games with some leeway, we are instead needing to win all four games.

Sixteen shots, but only one on target. We were not good and paid the price.

Not our best series of results. Somehow we still have the lead, but only just.

League Table

Four games to play, and we need at least ten points to guarantee the title.

Next Episode

This is the most important series of fixtures in the season. Can we get the results and win the league?
