113: Out in Quarter Finals Again

15 April 2024
Anderlecht, Belgium

The Quarter Finals proved to be a bridge too far as the usually prolific Anderlecht were left to rue missed chances. Trailing by a lone goal, Paars-Wit were unable to find a way through a resolute Manchester City defense in the second leg despite having the better of the game.

The loss was the second Quarter Final exit for Mr BadDragons Anderlecht side and calls into question whether he has what it takes to succeed at this level.

While it is true that we struggled in the second leg, I think the boys can take heart from our performance. We were battered in the first leg yet keep ourselves in the match despite being out played. In the league we continued to impress and are sitting 3 points clear with seven to play.

Blow by Blow

Job Interview

Looking at the side, F.C. Nantes offers nothing good for us. I answer the questions in such a way that they will not make me an offer, and they oblige.

Injury Update

“Alex” is back in training just in time for the Manchester City game.

Champions League – Quarter Final – Leg 1

It’s Game Day! Playing Manchester City at the Etihad. Doesn’t get better than this. Last season we got here and fell by the wayside. Have we learned anything?

“Alex” is back in the only change to the team with “Doctor” dropping to the bench.

Once again we stumble in the Quarter finals. At least this time we don’t fall apart totally, and are still in the tie for the second leg.

Champions League Results

Manchester United smash PSG in a totally one-sided affair.

Chelsea and Galatasaray draw however Chelsea have the two away goals. A Dieguinho hat-trick was enough to dispatch Juventus who now have it all to do in the second leg.

Team News

“Baby Face” has struggled and has found goals hard to come by. He is only 19 so there is plenty of time for him to find his form.

Jupiler Pro League – Champions Group – Match 2/10

Back at home we face Standard de Liege in a local derby fixture. We need to bounce back following a disappointing game against Manchester City.

At this stage the Champions League is more important than the League so I rotate the squad almost fully.

A good win which keeps us in the hunt for back to back titles. “Baby Face” bagged a goal to boot which was pleasing.

Injury Update

“Xu” picked up a small knock. Will not affect his participation much.

Champions League – Quarter Final – Leg 2

This is it! The big enchilada! Can my young side find the resolve to win the match in front of their home fans?

The odds makers have us destinctly in second place. I think that we will surprise a few people and deliver a good result.

One change at the back sees “Rommel” preferred to “James”. Apart from that, the team is the same side from the first leg.

We couldn’t find a way through in a very even match and ended up going out on the back of the first leg loss. Am slightly gutted to be honest as we had our chances.

Champions League Results

Chelsea was too strong for Galatasaray at home, while Porto kept their wonder run going with a fine victory.

Manchester United’s 5-0 thrashing of PSG was too much to overcome in leg 2. The lone goal by Manchester City consigned Anderlecht to their second exit at this stage in two years.

Champions League Semi Final Draw

We could see an all Manchester final. Chelsea and Porto are the dissenting voices in the debate!

Jupiler Pro League – Champions Group – Match 3/10

Now that we are out of the Champions League, I can turn my attention to a domestic treble.

A few players rotated for fitness reasons. “Westie” is given a break due to a slight dip in form.

We did what we needed to do and won the match. “Lembi” put in a fantastic performance and deserved the POM award.

Results Summary

Despite the narrow defeat to Manchester City, it has been a good four games.

League Table

We hold a narrow lead over Genk, however we have to play them twice. Win those and we go a long way towards winning the League.

Next Episode

The match against Genk is a must win game for us. A loss would hurt our chances, although we would still control our destiny.
