49: Out of the blocks well!

2 November 2019
Newcastle, Australia

Well the season is finally underway, and we have made a good start. Undefeated after four matches we sit top of the pile. Still a long way to go in the campaign so am not getting ahead of myself here.

Blow by Blow

Season ticket sales steady

Season ticket sales have been steady. I am hoping that my teams performance can boost those numbers.

First game in charge

Ticking down to my first game in charge. The first game at a new club is always an exciting time. Lets hope we get to enjoy it!

Hyundai A-League – Match 1/27

Defending champions Perth Glory team looks formidable. They seem to offer threats out wide and my boys are going to have to be on their guard today.

A good match first up however we lost both of our central midfield players through injury. We took our chances slightly better and created slightly more of them. Still a near run thing though.

Injury Report

The victory in the first game did not come without pain.

A pulled hamstring sees new signing Sean Brook sidelined for 4-5 weeks.

However a torn hamstring for Lewis Lewis is more serious and the midfielder will be out for 3-4 months.

No repeat for Cosmos

Looking at my old side Cosmos out of curiosity, and we see that they bowed out of the champions league at the semi-final stage. Still a good showing for them.

Hyundai A-League – Match 2/27

Second match sees us face Brisbane Roar in a catchup match. The winner will go top of the league whilst a draw will the teams remain where they are. The loss of our two first choice mid-fielders is a blow for us.

We controlled possession and in so doing controlled the match. Devid Carli bagged another goal, while Phil Hughes was magnificent in goal pulling off two key saves. The loss of Walker to a red card for all of the second half and the late injury to Brennan saw the Roar finish with only 9 players. Given that they played the half of the game with ten men it was no surprise they were outclassed.

Hyundai A-League – Match 3/27

Sydney! Time to settle a point with their boss after his comments earlier! Sadly the media decided to not interview me prior to the game, which meant that my sniping will have to wait. I am going to be on his case big time all season!

An early red card to Sydney player in only the 8th minute effectively ended this game as a contest. A man down against my team who were concentrating on holding possession it was hard for them to get back into the match. In the end they showed fight and we only won by two goals.

Debut for Watson

Yound Jonathan Watson go to play his first game for Newcastle tonight. He turned in a good performance too.

Hyundai A-League – Match 4/27

Top of the table clash here. Winner stays top, however if we win the gap will be five points after four games! Bookies make us only slight favourites, so I am expecting a close game. Nick Wells makes his first start having just come back from injury.

Once again we controlled possession, however they were clinical on the counter attack and went ahead early. We fought hard and it took us until the hour mark to get back into the game. We couldn’t find the winner and had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Match Summary

So there you have it. three wins and a draw with us averaging two goals in a game.

League Table

Top of the league and undefeated. Time to reflect on how well we have done, and focus on keeping on keeping on!

Next Episode

Next up we have a game against the Phoenix. It is no secret that I wanted to lead them to glory, however it wasn’t to be. Three logo’s to create and this league is done! Tune in next time to see whether we can keep the run going.
