217: Great Pro Vercelli start for BadDragon

18 August 2030
Vercelli, Italy

Pro Vercelli have started impressively with two victories in the opening two matches in the TIM Cup. The early signs are there that BadDragon could surprise many this season. While it is way too early to draw any conclusions, there are reports of a positive vibe starting to return to Silvio Piola.

Preseason

We were undefeated in our buildup matches. Admittedly these were against weaker opposition and really don’t count for much once the season starts.

New Players

It’s been a busy month for the club as no fewer than six players have joined.

“Borto” was a transfer arranged by the previous administration and looks a solid performer at wingback.

“Lapo” can play anywhere on the left and also central midfield. A player for the next few seasons.

“Macho” comes in on a free. The New Zealand youth international has potential to be the best players at the cub.

“Pizzo” can play in many positions, although his best role is wingback.

“Vags” is cover for attacking midfield and striker roles.

“Roto” is a good looking prospect and fills in the vacancy in the striker position.

Injury Update

Number one keeper “Micci” has been ruled out for three weeks. I have a capable backup in “Mazza” so am not overly concerned.

New signing “Roto” will miss the first match of the season, which is a disappointment. We are a little threadbare up front, so a lot will be expected of “Tomaz” and “Curlz”

TIM Cup Second Qualifying Round

First match for real and I will get a chance to see where the squad stands under match conditions.

We are not favored to advance. The absence of “Micci” and “Roto” have dented our chances some.

I ask my assistant for his ideal starting XI and am reasonably happy that we agree on most things. It is a big day for “Macho” and I think his contribution will be decisive today.

What a game! We started poorly with “Mazza” gifting them a goal in the second minute. “Curlz” and “Degi” bagged first half goals to see us take a narrow lead into the break. Poor defending saw Marenglen Azemi complete his hat-trick with two goals on the hour mar to see us trail 3-2 with 30 to play. “Curlz” bagged two goals and “Macho” destroyed the net with a thunderous free kick to see us take the match 5-3.

We created the better chances and deserved the win. Our defense needs some serious work, however.

TIM Cup Third Qualifying Round

In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes.

Recently relegated Verona are the pundits favorites to bounce right back up to the top flight. This will be a good test of where we stand.

“Micci” returns and pushes “Mazza” to the bench in the only change I make. Can “Curlz” and “Macho” repeat their fine form from the last match.

We give up an early goal despite having more chances in the opening quarter. Captain “Farina” levels it up for us with a scrappy goal from a corner and we go into the half all square. The second half was a real battle and just when it looked like we were headed for extra time “Lapo” flashes home a fantastic strike to give us the win!

Once again we created more chances but couldn’t take as many as I would like. Still we have advanced past our boards expectation in the TIM Cup.

Results Summary

Only the two cup matches in this report. It’s been a good start to my Pro Vercelli tenure and I have a good feeling about what is to come.

Next Episode

We will be back with the results of our first four Serie B matches, plus the end of the transfer window.
