Liverpool, England
Another solid series of matches sees Liverpool undefeated across all competitions. They are in spitting distance of the top of the League and it is only the flying start by Manchester United which makes their start look pedestrian.
The other competitions are just warming up and we will see how well they do against tougher opposition in coming weeks.

Injuries have been a concern, and have disrupted the planned rotation of the squad. The loss of “K.A.A.” until mid season is a huge blow to the sides chances.
Blow by Blow
Injury Update
Well this is annoying. “K.A.A.” was making great strides and he will be a big loss.
Champions League – Group H – Match 1/6
Liverpool face Kaiserslautern in the first match of the Champions League this season. We are slight favourites for this match. I am starting in the 4-2-3-1 however I am not married to it and will be flexible as the game progresses.
Two changes from my first choice side as “Trickles” is suspended following his red card in the last match and “K.A.A.” is absent injured. “Birigui” and “Goose” take their place.
We won, despite the red card to “Ferran” which saw us reduced to 10 men for an hour. Doubles by “Hero” and “Goose” proved to be the difference, and we were in cruise control despite a late consolation goal for them.
Champions League Results
No real surprises in these matches, with the usual suspects all posting first round wins.
The big shock was the smash and grab by PSV over PSG.
Premier League – Match 5/38
We take on Reading in a match which has become a must win game for us. We can’t afford to fall too far behind this early in the season.
Two changes for this match sees “Dari” in at right back while “Trickles” returns to the midfield. “Goose” drops back to the bench.
Once again we dropped points due to stupid play, this time on the part of “Flavio”. “J-Lal” is fast becoming a liability with his inability to score goals.
Capital One Cup – Third Round
A visit to Selhurst Park where a defiant Crystal Palace side lurks in wait. We have to deliver a good result today.
Fixture congestion, suspensions, and injuries see us field a heavily rotated side. “J-Lal”‘s place in the side is under serious review as young “Halo” is given a chance to dethrone the incumbent.
“Hero” bagged a 24 minute hat-trick, which included two goals ruled out for offside and a missed penalty. In the end we battered them and the game wasn’t close.
Capital One Cup – 4th Round Draw
Well we didn’t draw Arsenal in the 4th round. That means we will get through? Not for sure as we have drawn top of the table Manchester United. Give me a break!
Injury Update
“Flavio” joins the walking wounded list with a strained neck.
Premier League – Match 6/38
Newcastle United come to Anfield snapping at our heals. As the early days are shaping up this is a game that we must win.
A short-term injury to “Flavio” sees a 18 year old left back “Stipe” get his first league start for the side. I feel that the 4-3-1-2 is a better fit here.
In a game we had to win, youngster “Stipe” ended up being the hero as he managed to find the back of the net with a nice shot and put the rest of the strikers to shame. A comfortable win in the end, but not a pretty win.
Results Summary
Three wins and a draw out of four games seems strong. I hope that draw against Reading does not cost us too badly.
League Table
Sitting in fifth position which means we are there or there abouts. We have no room for mistakes however.
Champions League Group H
Early days and many games to play. We need to deal with the two “PS” boys now and this will sort the men from the boys.
Next Episode
The big double header against PSG and PSV with Brighton & Hove Albion and Swansea City in the middle.
