158: Liverpool fall to Barcelona

14 April 2027
Liverpool, England

Liverpool found the difference in class between themselves and Barcelona too great as they succumbed 2-1 on aggregate. Having done the hard work on the away leg they were held scoreless at home in what must rank as a disappointing result.

The disappointment has been tempered somewhat by the teams good performance in the Premier League where they sit second with five games to play. It does look like this will be the second season in a row without silverware for BadDragon, which has been a rare occurrence in his career.

Have to say I am gutted that we couldn’t get through against Barcelona. Still, it now looks almost certain that we will be back again next season and we will get further next time.

Blow by Blow

Premier League – Match 32/38

C07S02-304

In some ways the pressure is off us now. I think the title challenge has gone, and we will have to play really badly to finish below third place. With that in mind I am able to focus on the Champions League matches.

C07S02-305

In many ways I am starting to prepare for a life with out “Birigui” as we try “Lazar” and “Vince” at the back. “Ostariz” replaces “J-Lal” to try to add an additional threat up front.

C07S02-306

We were average today as well. I am not convinced that the 4-2-3-1 is working so it is back to the old faithful 4-3-1-2 from here on out.

Champions League – Quarter Final – Leg 1

C07S02-308

We go into this game at the end of a long run of fixtures, and the cracks may be showing. It has not been an easy campaign, but we are so close.

C07S02-309

We have close to the best side I can field here. We are stressed and tired, but we have to try to win.

C07S02-311

We had the better of the game in the first half, however we were not clinical enough in front of goal. Still we got the draw which was a good result although we were deserving of the win.

Sampdoria and Schalke have narrow leads after the first leg.

Premier League – Match 33/38

C07S02-314

Swansea are mid table and should not have much to play for apart from beating us. We need to rest some players so I’m not sure what team I will be sending out this match.

C07S02-315

So here we are with starting XI with a distinctly second string look about it. I am hoping that we have enough to get at least a point out of this match.

C07S02-316

Well that went according to script. We only had to use “Hero” for 20 minutes out of our starters for the next match and got the win. “Loz” showed that he is not the player for me and is done in the side.

Champions League – Quarter Final – Leg 2

C07S02-319

We have a first team which is well rested and mostly injury free. We have given ourselves a chance at a spot in the semi-final .

C07S02-320

This is the best side I can field. I allowed my assistant to select the side, and as usual I forgot to check the substitutes properly and have “Loz” instead of “Volkan” on the bench.

C07S02-322

We put in a poor showing, and “Hero” had his worst game of the season. In the end we fell just short and can consider ourselves unlucky.
