121: Anderlecht Crash out of Cup

24 November 2024
Anderlecht, Belgium

Anderlecht turned in a poor performance to crash out of the Cofidis Cup. They went down to the hard working Charleroi  side in what can only be described as a major upset.

The result put a dampener on the mood at Stade Constant Vanden Stock following the Anderlecht teams guaranteed qualification from Group A in the Champions League.

Well that was a shock. I knew the Charleroi team could be a tough opposition but never expected to actually lose to them. Still, you can’t win them all. The loss is only our first defeat this season so its not the end of the world.

Blow by Blow

Jupiler Pro League – Match 13/30

Sporting Lokeren are lingering in 15th place and look like they may be headed for relegation this season.

Once again we line up with a fully rotated side.

A goal late in each half by Chinese striker “Xu” was sufficient for us to take all three points,

Team News

I have been looking at my team balance and decided that “Marino” offers more to the side than “Moose”. Unfortunately he is ineligible for the Champions League matches due to him having played for Dinamo Zagreb.

Tactical Changes

The return of “Marino” is in response to look to develop something different in terms of shape on the pitch.

I am looking at running an asymmetrical formation as an alternative solution to what the side offers using the 4-3-1-2.

Injury Update

This is good news. “S.V.H.” was coming along well and I am looking forward to having him back on the pitch.

Champions League – Group A – Match 4/6

The return match which could decide the group.

No surprises in this line-up. We just have to get the job done.

We had the better of the first half, however we couldn’t find the needed goal. Juventus came back at us in the second spell and in the end a draw was the fair result.

Team News

Step one qualify. Step qualify top seed.

“Trickles” is turning into a bit of a yellow card magnet and is suspended for the second time this season.

Injury Update

Doctor picked up a small knock, but that is not all that bad.

On the plus side “Goose” is back in training following two months out with a hip injury.

Champions League Results

Dynamo Kyiv continues to impress with a draw against Manchester United . Real Madrid defeated Dortmund, while PSG and Benfica continued to impress.

There were a number of goal-fests in this round, with Chelsea and Bayern involved in an eight goal epic. Porto put five past Manchester City, with PSV netting four times against Dinamo Zagreb. Barcelona and Schalke drew 3-3.

Job Interview

Close!  Right city, wrong colour shirts.  Sorry. No sale!

Jupiler Pro League – Match 14/30

Somehow I don’t expect this game will be as easy as they say as I am going to start working on the alternative formation for a few weeks.

A highly experimental formation and line-up.

Well there were some good points, and some rough edges. I certainly won’t be using this against top opposition!

Injury Update

We have him back after 2 months, he doesn’t even start a game, and is injured for 4-5 weeks on international duty.

Cofidis Cup – 7th Round

Once again we come up against Charleroi. These guys can’t be taken lightly.

We have a Champions League fixture mid week so we line up a rotated side.

We had a shocking game today. “Benny Jets” has been struggling this season and did not click with “Baby Face”.
