95: Anderlecht in box seat

19 February 2023
Anderlecht, Belgium

Mr BadDragon continues to surprise with the way he has his Anderlecht team playing. He seems to have adopted a completely different approach , favouring a narrow 4-3-1-2 formation which makes a departure from his usual 4-3-3 with wide attackers .

Whatever he is doing appears to be working, and his team is performing well in both the Champions League and the Jupiler Pro League.

It is interesting to look at why I have changed things up. When I joined the side we lacked players out wide and I decided to play a different style as a result. Seems to be working, doesn’t it?

Blow by Blow

Jupiler Pro League – Match 25/30

We are playing a slightly rotated side today in this match, giving some players game time who need it.

“Flavio” and “Humbug” get some minutes, while “Munster” makes his return from injury as pivot man. “Central midfield and strikers are unchanged.

We were awful. What saved us was they were equally awful. only one shot on target in the whole 90 minutes.

Team News

Even the fans were dissatisfied with our performances. I hope the fire I lit under the bums of the boys wakes them up.

Transfer Out

“Kai” is moving on at the end of the season for 3 million.

Jupiler Pro League – Match 26/30

After our limp showing last time out we need to come to play this week.

We rotate most of our back four, while “Mookee” is back leading the line. “Goolie” comes in at DLP.

We started ok, despite the penalty miss by “Westie”. 1-0 up at half time we let the game slip a little and it took a late winner by “Lembie” to secure all three points.

Champions League 1st Knockout Round 1st Leg

This is the big game. We are on the road so we need to bag at least one away goal.

We have been made narrow favourites once more. We are missing “Benny Jets” who is travelling back from South African duty and “Petit” who we sold on. “Westie” and “Munster” are the two who I have chosen to carry the advanced playmaker role.

“C.K.” returns after the international sojourn so “Trickles” replaces “Doctor” who drops to the bench. The rest of the side are auto picks.

When it mattered the most “Mookee” came up trumps for us and bagged a fine double. We take a clean sheet and two away goals back home for the second leg which must put us in the driving seat.

Jupiler Pro League – Match 27/30

Coming back down to earth after the Champions League fixture is always tough.

Fielding the same team for this game.  We have a week off after this game so we will try to keep the momentum going.

We were shocking – just not up for the game at all. They were not that great, and poor defending saw us concede twice from corners.

Team News

“Kai” is  transferring and “Westie” has started the last few games. Other than that I am pleased with how we are tracking.

Results Summary

The loss to Mons has closed the league up somewhat. Still we are alive in the Champions League following the good victory.

League Table

Five points clear of Genk with three games to play in phase one.

Champions League Results

No real surprises here, although the Sampdoria and Manchester United draw was a surprise.

Next Episode

Up next is the home leg against Celtic, and maybe a place in the quarter finals.
