88: Back on Track

14 September 2022
Anderlecht, Belgium

Anderlecht have turned on the afterburners this month and notched up four wins. While they haven’t looked totally convincing, Mr BadDragon has started to get his side playing with a degree of fluidity that is surprisingly effective. It is still early in the campaign however, and there are many games to go before a winner will be found.

We have turned things around and have started to look good. Its taken a few weeks but I am starting to feel confident that the squad is starting to click.

Blow by Blow

Staff Signings

“Ginge” is signed as an additional first team physio to give the medical an extra pair of hands.

“Gags” comes in as a U-19 coach, specialising in tactics and attacking.

“Kerno” is brought on board as a U-19 physio.

“MaLongo” joins the medical team as an U-21’s physio.

“D.B.” comes in as an U19 coach specializing in attacking.

Champions League Best Placed Playoff Leg 2

It’s decision time for us and we need to start developing “Fortress Vanden Stock” as a place where teams fear to come.

We are underdogs and I know they have to come out and attack us.

I have opted to go with the 4-3-1-2 formation again, fielding my best line-up. I have started on counter with my fullbacks set to the full back role on support.

What can I say but wow! Am I pleased with the performance tonight! The boys were magnificant and only let them back into the game when we gave away 2 penalties in 2 minutes.

By then the damage was done and we are headed into the group stage.

Club News

“Petit” had a storming game and is really performing in the AM(C) role.

Money is always good, lots of money is even better!

Champions League Draw

Of the four teams, Lokomotiv Moskou holds the most interest as two former players play for the side.

New Signing

“Mookee” is the final piece of the puzzle. A natural candidate for deep lying forward and will be the final signing for us.

Jupiler Pro League – Match 5/30

Back to the League and we have some work to do. International break is coming up so we can afford to push the players as most of the squad have two weeks off.

Game on. A few rotations, and a missed substitution at left back. “King Louis” is back from injury and earns a start.

We almost paid the price for rotating the team as we began to fall away towards the end. In the end we had enough to hang on for a narrow victory.

Injury Update

“Petit” was called up for the Belgium first team and on the same day was injured. Bad luck for him and me!

Loan Moves

Reserve Goalkeeper “Saidi” is  a little unhappy about getting no games so off he goes on loan.

Same for “Marino”, who needs game time to develop.

Player Sold

“Sven” was never in contention for the first team, and was getting grumpy. Out the door he went.

Jupiler Pro League – Match 6/30

This promises to be a tough match. We need to field a top team because winning this match is important.

The absence of “Petit” cause me problems with home grown players. “S.V.H.” has to start at right back. Otherwise it is a very strong line-up.

We made it hard for ourselves. A couple of missed passes and  the rookie right back was exposed which lead to the first goal.

We fought hard and managed to get back into it finally coming out on top.

Champions League – Group C – 1/6

Wolfsburg come to town seeking to dominate the game. I am sticking with the same formation but a slightly different line-up.

Only one change with “Andre” rotating in for “C.K.”. I am looking for “Ngobeni” and “Mookee” to start combining better.

It was a hell of a game. Both sides traded body blows and neither seemed able to get the break-through. It too a late effort from “Alex” to break the deadlock and secure all three points.

Results Summary

Four games played for four wins. None of which were easy wins, but at this level there is no such thing as an easy win.

League Table

We have clawed our way up to second equal, which is a good turn of events.

Champions League Group C

Early days but we are top of our group.!

Next Episode

Coming next episode we get to start our cup run, visit Italy, and play two domestic teams whose names start with their results against us (I hope1).
