1 April 2021
This month has been a mixed bag. We have continued our good form in the Champions League yet failed to win a A-League match. This has been mostly down to having to rotate our side heavily to keep everyone fresh.
Blow by Blow
Hyundai A-League – Match 23/27
Adelaide are in second and will not be a push over. Once again I am fielding a rotated team due to the mid week fixture.
“Dildo” is making only his second start for the season following 3 months out injured. “The Axe” is given a chance to redeem himself, while “Robbo” is playing at DM.
Well that’s it. “The Axe” has done his dash. Another bad performance where we took a 1-0 lead into the break and gave up four goals in in two 2 minute spells. It was made worse by the fact that they were down to 10 men. We should have had more goals as our finishing was a bit weak, however our defending was awful.
AFC Champions League – Match 3/6
First plays second in this crucial game. Our recent form looks patchy, but that is because of fielding second string sides in the League. We need two wins to qualify from the group depending on results, so this game is a big one.
We field a maximum strength squad, and look to the returning midfield players to make a difference.
An early goal by “Mr Li” was sufficient for us to take all three points from the match. We were the better side and thoroughly deserved the win.
They were only offering 29K for “The Axe” – I want a minimum of 180K for him.
Hyundai A-League – Match 24/27
In two minds as to how strong a team to turn out for this match. I need a win to keep morale up, and we have dropped two league games in a row.
In the end I go for a solid line-up, but rest players who are slightly fatigued from international duty.
We gave away an early goal and then struggled to convert our chances. The second half penalty killed off the game. I was not happy with the team and let them know that.
AFC Champions League – Match 4/6
This is going to be an important match. Win this and we are almost certainly guaranteed to be through to the next round.
The only change to my first choice team is “Gopher” starting on the left. The bench picks itself due to fitness constraints.
A fine hat-trick by “Mr Li” was the catalyst for a dominant performance. I was concerned when they pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 but for once we kicked on and did the business.
“Narcoleptic” gets to have a wee sleep-in for the next champions league game.
“Mr Li” sets a new record for the club in goalscoring.
We have now lost three league games on the bounce. It is time to reverse this trend.
Our run of losses in the league has seen our lead shring to 11 points. I am confident that we can pick up 2 wins out of three games and finish strongly.
Champions League Group
A point will confirm our top finish, although it will take a hefty turn around for us to not qualify.
In Group H Melbourne Victory are still in contention. Two wins should be enough to see them progress.
Next Episode will see us play the last three league matches and our fifth Champions League fixture. We are going to go hard at the next two games and then eas up for the Melbourne heart match.
