27 December 2020
Another month where we absolutely dominated. I have been racking my brain trying to think of what has changed. Sure we signed a new striker, but he has not made that much of a difference. The only thing I can think of is that I have changed the midfield players into different roles. Since I made that change we have been playing better, our passing more effective, and the front men have been getting into good positions.
Looks like someone is feeling a little precious. We will just have to do our talking on the pitch.
Hyundai A-League – Match 9/27
Melbourne Heart have not been playing badly this season and find themselves in mid-table. I am not taking this game lightly.
We make two injury enforced changes with “Narcoleptic” making his first appearance for the season. “Trooper” returns to the left wing position and “Sunshine” comes onto the bench. “The Greek is now rated as the number one keeper in the side and will get a chance to prove this point. “Scruffy” is retained up front for this match.
We start in good controlling form, and “Dobbie” produces a fine save from the Heart Keeper. “Trickles” opens the scoring with a fine effort from the edge of the area. “Trickles scores his second following a very sharp team counter-attack, and we go into the half two goals to the good.
“Dobbie” got our third following an assist from “Scruffy”. The match lost a little shape and while we had a few more chances to extend the lead we were unable to do so.
“Trickles” in Top Form
I can’t help feeling that the changes I have made to the midfield has been a contributing factor in our improved performance. “Trickles” has been on fire this season.
The thing I can’t fathom is why we are performing that much better than last season. We have essentially the same players, yet the performances have been way stronger.
“Thurts” is out for a couple of weeks with a bruised rib. Not the end of the world.
Hyundai A-League – Match 10/27
The second rotation begins with a match against Western Sydney.
Three changes for this game as “C.K.”, “Family Man”, and “Trooper” are replaced by “Sunshine”, “The Count”, and “Robbo”.
We pile on the early pressure with “Trickles” and “Scruffy” creating chances. “Dobbie” drew a foul and converted from the spot. A workmanlike performance sees us go into the break 1-0 to the good. We haven’t had a great game however and I am not feeling comfortable. The second half was a repeat of the first, possession with no purpose. In the end we got the win, but looked average.
Dildo is out for 3-4 months! The injuries to my support players just keep coming. As long as they stay away from my starters all is well.
“The Axe” has dropped down the pecking order but is still a good player. I took advantage of him leaving his agent to negotiate a good deal.
“Nerd” is back to full training, and will be getting some youth squad time to get condition back.
Same thing applies to “Gopher” although he will probably be back in the squad at the first possible time.
Hyundai A-League – Match 11/27
The Roar are the next visitors to Hunter Stadium. We have been made comfortable favorites and with The Roar languishing at the bottom of the table it is easy to see why.
“Mr Li” is back up front, while at the back “Warrior” gets a game off as I take a look at “Robbo” in the DM role. “Family Man” comes back in to partner “Boothie”.
“Trickles” missed a golden chance by blazing over. “Mr Li” opened the scoring when he pounced on a loose ball and calmly slotted home past the keeper. 1-0 at the break and we were looking good. “Mr Li” made it 2-0 from the restart when he got on the end of a long pass and calmly chipped the keeper. “C.K.” got on the scoresheet with a tidy header from a “Trckles” cross. We had a few chances but lacked the necessary hunger to finish.
“Frosty” is leaving the club. While it is sad to see him go, it was obvious that this was his last season with the club. He was starting to decline as a player, was our second highest wage expense and was also occupying a valuable overseas player slot.
I had been looking at this young lad since his agent suggested he was tired of the cold in Wales and fancied a warmer climate.
Hyundai A-League – Match 12/27
Sydney FC are sitting in 8th place and have been struggling. Still no reason to take pity on them though!
“Trooper” and “Warrior” return to the starting line up. “Taffy” is going to play a few youth games to get his fitness up.
It took us 45 seconds for “Mr Li” to get us underway. A candidate for the fastest ever goal. We should have had a second goal when “Trooper” hit the post and then “Mr Li” hit the same post with the rebound! “Boothie” got number two with a powerfull close range header. “Dobbie” missed a penalty and the chance to make it three.
“Dobbie” has not had the best of games, and I pull him on the hour mark to give “Scruffy a chance to make an impact. With time almost up, “Mr Li” makes it 3-0 with a fine long range strike.
Four wins from four games and four clean sheets. We have been winning well without conceding any goals.
The amazing thing is the demise of the Melbourne Victory, and the rise of the Phoenix. We are 12 points clear after 12 games and look unstoppable.
We come back for the second pass over the top teams. I don’t expect our luck to hold out and would be very surprised to see us unbeaten by the end of these four games.
