The new year has not been as kind to us as I wanted. We dropped two games against the Victory and Adelaide before upending the Phoenix and then drawing with the Heart. Some transfer activity saw two new faces come in while most of the deadwood were moved on.
Blow by Blow
Hyundai A-League – Match 13/27
We are not favoured to win the game. We have to upset the odds if we want to have a chance of catching these boys.
What can I say. We almost did enough, but almost did not do enough for the win. I think the play-offs are all I can hope for this season.
Tsatsalidis joins us from Irakis. He will be a good backup to Hughes and maybe a future starter.
Jason Ferguson will be having a game off next match.
Wells back from injury
Wells is coming back having only played 253 minutes this season.
Hyundai A-League – Match 14/27
Another close game. After our last effort it is one we need to win. Nick Wells is back on the bench following his injury, and Watson in for King who is looking fatigued.
We didn’t look likely and fell behind early. A shocking back pass saw us 2-0 behind and even a late goal couldn’t save us.
Bartolo was unhappy where he was an I happened along at the right time.
Hyundai A-League – Match 15/27
Next up are Wellington Phoenix. We need to stop the rot and come back with a win. New Signing Bartolo will be making his first start for the club.
A good result for the lads who looked the part today. Pleased with new boy Bartolo who scored the opening goal on debut.
Sean Brook – player of the match with a great game.
Hyundai A-League – Match 16/27
With us dropping back into the pack, this becomes a must win match. Rory Adams gets a rare start and I am looking for him to make a difference.
Both sides had chances and neither could convert. In the end a draw is not a bad result.
A rocky start to the month saw us only pocket 4 points of a possible 12. Not enough to get back to challenge for the title, but enough to keep us in the hunt.
Fourth place overall is not where I wanted to be at this stage of the season. The movement of Sydney FC up into seventh place and only 4 points behind us is a concern. We need to go on a tear to re-establish our position at the top.
Melbourne Heart will be tough opposition. The Roar and the Mariners should be fairly comfortable wins before we host the Glory in another tough game. Looking for eight points this time.
