Tembisa, South Africa
Since the last update we have carried on our fantastic run of form and have reached the final of the NedBank Cup, and are currently top of the league. We have two games to play… how did we get there?
Blow by Blow
Despite being bottom, Polowane City did not make life easy for us. It took a late own goal for us to emerge with all three points.
A very solid win for us – we are holding second place with a game in hand. Their game came from a long range free kick, so our defence was sound.
We had the better of the game but once again we were not clinical enough in front of goal. Still we get through on penalties and if you are in it, then you can win it!
A Semi-final against SuperSport United awaits! It would be a good time to beat them for the first time this season.
We turned in a poor performance against Sundowns. We never really got started and by the time we woke up, the game was gone. Our poor finishing was again an issue, and it is something I need to address before next season.
The game was made worse with the loss of key centerback Motoo Nogi. He has been the rock upon which our defence has been build and he will be missed.
Wits came visiting and to be honest we were bloody ordinary for the first 30 minutes. Almost against the run of play Nene put us ahead, and that seemed to give the team belief. Bright’s goal 2 minutse from time sealed the three points and allowed us to retain second spot.
Kaizer Chiefs were next up – the start of us playing the top of the table in the last games of the season. We pulled of a very good win, and even the very late direct free kick could take no gloss of the result.
Here’s hoping that I can make it lucky #100 and get the team into the Nedbank Cup Final.
Ok, so it wasn’t a great game. It was a victory however! We are in the final and will be playing Kaizer Chiefs.
We lost to them back in 1992 and it is payback time!
A solid victory against the Pirates which guarantees us at least third place. One league game to play, one point needed! What will happen?
League Table
So there you have it. Win or draw and Jomo Cosmos are champions. A loss will see Bloem Celtic Champions unless SuperSport United also win, in which case SuperSport United will win as long as we do not lose by nine clear goals. Simple, eh?
Match Summary
Final Act
Two games remain in the season… and two trophy wins up for grabs!
Youth Intake
Keorapetse Ngobeni looks like an amazing talent. One and a half stars in my team as a 16 year old is pretty impressive.
Mthimkulu is next up. Not quite as good as Ngobeni, he still has some promise.
A solid talent who could develop into a solid player.
Another good young striker – I may retrain as AM(L) inside forward.
The best defensive option to come through the intake.
We had a real shortage of midfield players. I may ahve to look to Europe for a hard working BtB midfielder.
Departures
Paulse joined us earlier this season, but has failed to tie down a starting position. He wanted to move and I didn’t see any point in keeping him here against his will.
Player Retirement
Largely replaced in the starting line-up, Bright was not going to be resigned so his retirement makes it easier on both sides.
