Tembisa, South Africa
It’s a new year and while the results have not gone our way, I am feeling good about where we are placed. We have it all to play for.
Blow by Blow
The game against Wits was rescheduled to next week so the first first game this episode is against the serious challenger Kaizer Chiefs.
A very good win, despite giving them plenty of chances. If they could shoot the result may have been different, but they couldn’t and so it wasn’t.
Second six week injury for Ngcobo this season! Luckily Right back is not a position I am struggling with (tempting fate!).
At half-time we were looking lucky to be in the game. By full-time we were the better team so a draw was a fair result. Why am I not satisfied?
We made most of the play but the Pirates took their chance to hold a 1-0 lead at the break. We hit back right after the break before grabbing the winner with 20 mins to go.
The Pirates came back at us and only some heroics in goal from Farouk Miller kept us in the match. We hit the post in the 92nd minute but as the dust settled the game was ours!
Sadly we lost Rafiq Nene for a second six week injury. This is starting to become slightly annoying.
A bad performance all round for us – No shots on target and to be honest we never looked likely. Back into second place but that is still a good position to be in!
Another game where we lost the ability to take our chances. A draw is not a loss, but it’s not a win either.
This game was ours for the taking. We dominated for long periods but were not clinical enough. SuperSports were and took all three points.
Match Recap
We have hit a bit of a flat spot in the new year, and it I will have to get onto the players to snap out of the malaise. Still we have exceeded our expecations and a Champions League spot is up for grabs still.
League Table
SuperSport Utd have pulled away from the pack a bit. It is tight in the race for the other top four places, however. We are in contention.
Next Matches
These next eight games are crucial for the top spot. We need to go on a winning run to keep in the picture.
A New Deal
It was a no brainer to sign a new deal. I am looking forward to building a team that can challenge for Champions League glory and I believe that the Jomo Cosmos board share this ambition.
Next Report
I will be checking back in after the Polokwane match as we commence our run in to the finish line.
